This book was a bit of a slow burn at first, and the characters seemed a little artificial. But the author clearly had a method to her madness, as by the time I got just a bit further in—not the book—the STORY—everyone and everything began to come to life and with such force I was rivetted. I could not put the story down or ever forget these luminous, very real people or their horrendous experience of WW2 France. Most of all, they proved what we want and need in our lives. That love must triumph over hate for our civilization to not only survive, but thrive. This is a compellingly inspired story, and I believe one of the most important ones to read for everyone.

I finished this book over a month ago and the characters are still living in my head. I think about it often. It’s a heartbreaking story that opened my eyes to so many of the hardships endured during that dark time. Even through the sadness I couldn’t stop reading, I needed to know what happened. The writing is excellent. This book will make you feel deeply. If you can handle a heavy read, I highly recommend this one.

This book was a bit of a slow burn at first, and the characters seemed a little artificial. But the author clearly had a method to her madness, as by the time I got just a bit further in—not the book—the STORY—everyone and everything began to come to life and with such force I was rivetted. I could not put the story down or ever forget these luminous, very real people or their horrendous experience of WW2 France. Most of all, they proved what we want and need in our lives. That love must triumph over hate for our civilization to not only survive, but thrive. This is a compellingly inspired story, and I believe one of the most important ones to read for everyone.

I finished this book over a month ago and the characters are still living in my head. I think about it often. It’s a heartbreaking story that opened my eyes to so many of the hardships endured during that dark time. Even through the sadness I couldn’t stop reading, I needed to know what happened. The writing is excellent. This book will make you feel deeply. If you can handle a heavy read, I highly recommend this one.
